Damage to the building was mainly on the exterior and roof.
Thanks to Oakland Fire Department for their quick response to the fire at the Rotary Nature Center. We are grateful that thanks to their quick response that there was not more damage to the building.
The fire happened the evening of September 26th, 2023. Most of the damage was limited to the exterior and a portion of the roof. Staff is working to evaluate the damage to the building and collection. Taxidermy will be evaluated and treated by an expert to mitigate any smoke or water damage once the site is secured.
